Overview

Over 1000 years ago, in Ninh Binh, there were three King dynasties to be born: Dinh, Tien Le, and Ly. These three feudal dynasties were all very interested in Buddhism and considered Buddhism as the National religion; So in Ninh Binh, there are many ancient temples, including Bai Dinh Pagoda, in the Trang An mountain range.

Bai Dinh Pagoda complex consists of an ancient pagoda and a new pagoda built in 2003. The pagoda is located on a mountain slope, between the vast valleys of lakes and rocky mountains, at the western gateway to Hoa Lu ancient capital. The new pagoda architecture is monumental but it brings the traditional Vietnamese identity.

The well of the ancient Bai Dinh pagoda situates near the foot of Bai Dinh mountain. It was the place where Zen master Nguyen Minh Khong took water to sharpen medicine for the people and cure Ly Than Tong King. The well is very wide, with a diameter of 30 m.
